Let's talk about Black Friday, Blue Monday, and the colourful world of emotions….
You've heard of Blue Monday (the third Monday in January), which is said to be the most depressing day of the year. Psychologist Cliff Arnall came up with a formula that supports the idea of the day’s depression, based on factors that contribute to low mood, like the gloomy January weather, failed New Year's resolutions, and post-holiday financial stress. Travel agencies use Blue Monday’s moniker to seize the opportunity to market escapist holiday deals to us, and our clients, on this day.
Then there's Black Friday known for its crazy shopping deals. Impacting on our collective mental health due to the pressure to snag the best bargains, the frenzy of the day can be overwhelming.
So, how can we support each other, and coach our clients, during these emotionally charged times?
It's crucial to be there and present for one another, whether it's offering a listening ear, sharing coping strategies, or just being a source of comfort.
Expressing our feelings is also key and NOT hysterical.
I'll save my thoughts on the insult of calling women "hysterical" to disregard our feelings for another time.
If you find yourself feeling the weight of Blue Monday or the stress of Black Friday, don't keep it bottled up this coming year. Seeking support is a sign of strength.
Now, let's add a new colour to the emotional mix: Turquoise Tuesday. I was going to go with Turquoise Wednesday, but all fans know Mean Girls have claimed pink for Wednesdays!
Let's create a new, positive association with this day. Turquoise is often linked to balance and tranquillity, so why not use Turquoise Tuesday to surround ourselves with the colour turquoise as a symbol of serenity. Yes, Turquoise is blue, but can we all agree it’s a joyful blue?
In a nutshell, these "colourful" days can have a real impact on our well-being, but by supporting each other, being mindful of our emotions, and expressing how we feel, we can navigate them with resilience and strength. So, let's paint our own emotional canvas and add a splash of turquoise, or any colour you want, to brighten up our Tuesdays!
